Anderson Island Calendar-Signing Will Feature Smithsonian-recognized Local Photographer

October 10th, 2014 - Anderson Island, WA

NEWS RELEASE -

Smithsonian-recognized local photographer Sean Griffin will be autographing his 2015 Anderson Island calendars at Anderson Island’s annual Apple Squeeze event on Saturday, Oct. 11. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the society’s Gift Shop, located at the historic Johnson Farm, 9306 Otso Point Road. The Anderson Island 2015 calendars will be available for purchase for $20. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Anderson Island Historical Society.

Griffin, internationally recognized for fine art, landscape and wildlife photography as well as for fashion photography and portraiture, relocated to the Puget Sound’s southernmost island in 2013. He was immediately captivated by its breathtaking beauty and made it the primary focus of his photography over the ensuing year.

“I don’t think any island in Puget Sound - or anywhere else, for that matter - can match the beauty, serenity, history and sense of community that are so abundant on Anderson Island,” Griffin said. “It’s got to be the region’s least-recognized gem.”

The calendar’s 13 photographs range from breathtaking images of a spring sunrise at Oro Bay to an awe-struck kayaker transfixed by the beauty of a summer sunset on Balch Passage. Among the more unusual images are a long-abandoned, moss- and fern-encrusted 1955 Chevrolet pick-up truck being reclaimed by nature and a fern-strewn fireplace — all that remains of the historic Jacob Homestead at Jacob’s Point.

The island, is reached via a 20-minute ferry ride from Steilacoom, just minutes south of Tacoma. Ferries run approximately hourly. The complete ferry schedule can be found at http://www.piercecountywa.org/index.aspx?NID=2200

If you can’t make the calendar signing, there are three ways to purchase Griffin’s 2015 Anderson Island calendar.
